Exclusion Zones

1 min read

Exclusion zones can be used to mark out high-risk areas, cultural heritage sites, or environmentally sensitive areas. SMART can be configured to automatically trigger alerts and send notifications when devices enter an Exclusion Zone.

SMART uses 3 types of zones (Work Zones, Exclusion Zones and Alert Zones).

Understanding Zones #

Workzones #

Designate areas where specific work tasks occur. Can be linked to schedules for productivity insights.

Exclusion Zones #

High-risk areas where devices should not enter. Used for triggering breach alerts.

Alert Zones (SOS Zones) #

Locations that escalate an SOS alert if triggered from within the zone.

📘 Tip: Use clear zone names and document zone purposes in descriptions for traceability

Creating & Managing Zones #

Creating a New Zone #

  1. Go to the Zones tab
  2. Click ‘+ New’
  3. Choose zone type (Work, Exclusion, SOS)
  4. Name the zone and set a description
  5. Use the Draw tool to define the area on the map
  6. Set alert level (A, B, C for exclusion zones)
  7. Save

Editing or Deleting Zones #

  • Click the zone from the table
  • Use ‘Edit’ or ‘Delete’ options from the sidebar menu

Importing Zones #

You can bulk import zones from spatial files like DWG:

  1. Click Actions > Upload File
  2. Select the file
  3. Choose which zones to import
  4. Click Create

Nesting Zones #

You can group zones inside broader parent zones for hierarchy and filtering:

  • During zone creation/editing, assign a Parent Zone
  • Use the Zone Level Toggle to switch views on the map
